PERFORMANCES RECENTLY PROMOTED BY CECILIA MUSIC . . . .

SATURDAY 18 FEBRUARY 2012 - David Wright plays The Goldberg Variations

David Wright has developed a reputation as a major exponent of The Goldberg Variations over the last five years. After an initial series of live performances he recorded the whole magisterial work for CD on ZUM records in 2007. This recording was greeted with universal acclaim as a major interpretation of the Goldbergs. Since then, according to David himself, his interpretation has grown organically into a unified whole that seeks to explore not only the inherent contrasting moods of the Goldberg Variations, but to understand and assimilate the feeling for the dance that pervades the music of Bach, as much in this monumental keyboard work as in more obviously dance-based movements.

The Cecilia Music Summer Series 2011

Baroque chamber music in Cambridgeshire's oldest building, the beautiful Church of St Bene't, Cambridge.

Wednesday 17 August 2011 at 6.45 pm

Two Baroque Titans
Maria Sanger & Peter Wells (recorders),
Mary Pells (viola da gamba) & David Wright (harpsichord)

Possibly the most influential instrumental composer of the baroque was Arcangelo Corelli and this programme puts examples from his trio sonatas Opp 1 & 2, and some of his magnificent solo sonatas Op 5 alongside works by the most cosmopolitan of Corelli's followers, the stupendous George Frederick Handel whose own trio sonatas are models of Corellian clarity and harmonic drama. Also featured will be some of Handel's truly splendid recorder sonatas from his Op 1 collection. This concert will be a fittingly sumptuous ending to the Cecilia Music Summer Series of Baroque Chamber Music.

Wednesday 8 June 2011 at 6.45 pm

The High Baroque Trio Sonata
Maria Sanger & Peter Wells (recorders) and David Wright (harpsichord)

The Trio Sonata was the instrumental form par excellence in the baroque and the repertoire teems with magnificent examples for pairs of wind instruments with continuo. This programme juxtaposes some of the finest trio sonatas by the major figures Telemann and Quantz with works originally written for recorders by Johann Christoph Graupner, William Williams and virtuoso harpsichord solos.

"We did very much enjoy your concert! What virtuosity. We look forward to coinciding with more." Dr F, Suffolk

"I do so wish to make full use of the wonderful concerts in the future as well as today of course." Miss H, Cambridge
